There’s something undeniably magical about diving in the Sea of Cortez, especially near La Paz, where the ocean feels like a hidden paradise waiting to be explored. For a little while, it’s just you, the water, and a peaceful world bursting with life. Jacques Cousteau wasn’t wrong when he called this the Aquarium of the World—every dive brings a new adventure.
One of my favorite places is Los Islotes, home to playful sea lions who love showing off their acrobatic skills. Their energy is contagious, and swimming alongside them feels like being part of something truly wild and free. Just nearby is Isla Espíritu Santo, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site with rugged cliffs, crystal-clear water, and reefs alive with color. Gliding through this underwater world, you’ll encounter schools of vibrant fish, graceful rays, and sometimes even a sea turtle on its slow, majestic journey.
What makes diving here so special isn’t just the marine life—it’s the peace. The way light dances through the water, the gentle sway of the sea, and the rhythm of your breath create a calm unlike anything else. Whether you spot a massive whale shark or a tiny, hidden nudibranch, every dive brings a sense of awe and connection to the ocean.
