Every summer something special happens here at DiversInnMX.

A handful of young divers arrive in La Paz—sometimes a little nervous, sometimes bursting with excitement—but always curious about what it means to move from simply diving to becoming a leader in the water.

Six weeks later we watch them leave with a completely different level of confidence.

This year marks the fourth year we’ve offered our PADI Junior Divemaster Program, and it has quietly become one of the most rewarding programs we host at the resort.

The transformation we see in these young divers is remarkable.

They begin the program thinking they are here to learn a few new dive skills. What they actually gain is something much deeper—confidence, responsibility, and a real understanding of what it means to support other divers in the water.

A Program Designed for Young Dive Leaders

The PADI Junior Divemaster certification is designed for divers between the ages of 15 and 17 who want to take their diving to the next level.

Over six weeks, students learn what happens behind the scenes in real dive operations.

They practice:

• dive supervision
• dive site mapping
• equipment preparation
• diver safety awareness
• assisting instructors during Discover Scuba experiences
• guiding certified divers

These are the same foundations used in professional PADI Divemaster training, but the Junior program allows younger divers to develop these skills in a supportive, paced environment.

Learning in the Sea of Cortez

One of the things that makes this program so unique is the location.

La Paz sits beside one of the most biologically rich marine environments in the world—the Sea of Cortez.

Students train among vibrant reefs, schooling fish, sea lions, and the constantly changing conditions that make this sea such an incredible classroom.

Every dive becomes part of the learning process.

They practice buoyancy control while guiding divers through reefs. They learn how to observe conditions and plan safe dives. They experience firsthand the responsibility that comes with leading others underwater.

More Than a Certification

Over the years we’ve watched friendships form that continue long after the program ends.

Students arrive from different places but quickly bond over early mornings on the dive boat, shared excitement over marine life encounters, and the sense that they’re doing something meaningful together.

By the end of the six weeks many of them begin to see the ocean—and themselves—differently.

Some go on to complete the full Divemaster certification when they turn 18. Others simply carry the experience forward into a lifetime of diving.

But all of them leave with a deeper sense of confidence and capability.
