Pichilingue – Adopt the Blue
THE STORY: The first child never notices what lies beneath the water.
She runs laughing from the warm sand into the clear blue shallows while her parents unfold beach chairs beneath a palapa. A fisherman eases his panga down the launch, hoping for a good day on the Sea of Cortez. Divers gather quietly beside their gear, eager to descend into one of the most extraordinary marine environments on Earth. From the shoreline, Pichilingue looks untouched—its turquoise water sparkling against the desert mountains, inviting everyone who comes here to believe this place will always remain beautiful.
Then we slip beneath the surface.
The illusion disappears.
Fishing line is tangled where seahorses make their home. Plastic bottles have settled among the rocks. Aluminum cans are buried in the sand. Storms have carried in another season of debris, and each year the ocean patiently waits for someone to remove what never belonged there. Most visitors will never see it. We do. And for the past nine years, we have refused to swim past it.
This is the story of a beach we love, a community that deserves better, and a promise we made to the Sea of Cortez: if no one else would protect Pichilingue, we would begin.
Our Projects
Pichilingue – Adopt the Blue
We have adopted the Pichilingue area and maintain ongoing clean-up and restoration efforts. Activities include:
- Multi-year debris removal and underwater clean-ups
- Coral repair and habitat support
- Installation and maintenance of buoys and markers
- Monitoring of seahorses and local marine life
We previously submitted a PADI grant application to expand this work and are currently revising it for resubmission.
Estrella de Cinco Puntos
We founded the Mexican non-profit Estrella de Cinco Puntos to support reef restoration, environmental education in local schools, public education programs, water-reuse initiatives, and reserve clean-ups. Through the foundation we also encourage university and community involvement in marine conservation.

Fundraising for the PADI AWARE Foundation
We’re raising funds to support the PADI AWARE Foundation’s incredible work in marine conservation.
Since 1992, with the help of supporters like you, PADI AWARE has helped secure protection for 104 species of sharks and rays, funded more than 200 grantees through the Blueprint for Ocean Action, and removed over 2.5 million pieces of debris from the ocean floor.
Every dollar you give brings us one step closer to protecting the ocean we all care so passionately about, and to achieving a world in balance between humanity and the sea.
The pier has been damaged by hurricane’s, no toilet facilities, tidal area, no central garbage disposal area, plastic and beer cans abound underwater. We have been cleaning for the last nine years. Diversinnmx is giving 10000usd towards this endeavor. We need others to help. Thousands of Mexican nationals, tourists, and children visit this contaminated beach. There is a launch for locals to use that needs renovation as well.
At DiversInnMX we believe every dive can make a difference. We actively support PADI AWARE Foundation programs and work with local partners to protect the reefs, wildlife, and waters that make La Paz special.
