PADI Snorkel Guide Training
A Signature Baja Dive Training at DiversInnMX
This is the PADI Snorkel Guide course, taught at the resort by Richard Musselman. It is for an adult who wants to run a snorkel excursion: the briefing, the group, the safety, and the part about leaving the reef and the animals alone. It is not a scuba course, and it is not the first step to the IDC.
Two days. The candidate reads the PADI course notes before arrival. There is no eLearning to buy. Day one is the classroom and the water skills. Day two is a briefing and a guided snorkel, evaluated, not watched. The water is the Sea of Cortez.
You have to be 18. You need Emergency First Response, Primary and Secondary Care, current within 24 months. Richard can run that with the course. You need a physician’s clearance for diving within the past 12 months.
In the water: an 800-metre snorkel swim, fifteen minutes treading or floating, a 25-metre underwater swim on one breath, and a proper ascent. Mask, snorkel, fins, and a flotation and signaling device.
What you leave with
A PADI Snorkel Guide certificate with your photo, after the membership application and fee go to PADI. It is renewed every year. In most places it is what you need to carry professional liability insurance. The rating lets you lead snorkel excursions. It does not make you a Divemaster, an instructor, or an assistant on a PADI program.
If you want to guide in the park
The PADI card is not the credential for Espíritu Santo. CONANP runs the park. The card a guide has to carry in Baja California Sur is the specialized-guide credential under NOM-09-TUR-2002, issued through SETUE, the state tourism office. That file asks for identification, an RFC, a medical certificate no older than three months, first aid and CPR no older than two years, and a constancia from a training entity the tourism secretariat recognizes. The company also needs its CONANP authorization, and Los Islotes is closed to swimmers in June, July, and August.
Take this course if you want the PADI rating and the skills. If the goal is to guide inside the protected area, ask Richard before you book. He will tell you whether SETUE will accept this course toward that credential, or whether you still need a listed trainer. We will not tell you the PADI card covers the park. It does not.
Ask Richard at kristi@diversinnmx.com. Price on request. No store link. This course is not sold as eLearning.

We Did Not Wait for Someone Else to Protect Pichilingue
From the road, Pichilingue looks fine. Turquoise water. Desert mountains. Families on the sand. The ferry traffic going by. You would not know, standing there with a cold drink, what is sitting on the bottom twenty feet offshore. I do. I have been looking at it for...
